
Article I
Section 1. The name of this club shall be the Chinese Club.
Article II
Section 1. The members of the Chinese Club recognize the fact that one quarter of the world population speaks some dialect of the Chinese language. In appreciation of an ancient and beautiful culture, and for the purposes of shaping ourselves to act as capable members of the community, we form this organization. The goals of this club are as follows:
1. To improve Chinese language skills within our membership.
2. To increase knowledge of Chinese culture through field trips and social events.
3. To increase student enrollment in Chinese language courses.
4. To increase student enrollment in Asian studies courses.
5. To actively participate with the Academy Chinese Club.
Article III
Section 1. a. Membership is limited to Ball State students, faculty, and staff.
b. Membership shall not be based on race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, color, national origin, physical or mental handicap, age, or military status.
Article IV
Section 1. President
a. The position of President shall only be held by an elected student that has either successfully completed the Chinese Language Program or actively enrolled in the course.
b. Shall preside over the general assembly and executive council.
c. Shall act as liaison between the administration, faculty, and members of the organization.
Section 2. Vice President
a. Shall preside over the general assembly in the absence of the President.
b. Initiates all political aspects of the organization, under direction or with the approval of the President.
Section 3. Secretary
a. Shall take attendance and record minutes of all meetings.
b. Shall correspond to letters and memos outside the meetings, members, and other universities and organizations.
c. Shall be prepared to present files and correspondence with reasonable advance notice.
Section 4. Treasurer
a. Shall assist President in proposing a budget for the ensuing year.
b. Shall personally make disbursements and receive income.
c. Shall personally keep the financial books open for public inspection at all times.
d. Shall be prepared to present formal budget reviews at the discretion of the President.
Section 5. Social Chair
a. Shall organize and institute gatherings and activities for members throughout the year.
b. Shall be appointed each semester by the majority of the members.
Section 6. Officer-Elects
a. Communicate directly with officer currently holding the position to learn what is appropriate to fulfill the duties of that office
Section 7. General Officer Obligations
a. Each officer is required to hold term until the end of the semester.
b. Each officer shall provide guidance to newly elected officers for the following semester.
Article V
Section 1. Executive committee shall be comprised of the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Section 2. The members of the executive committee shall be elected at the second meeting of every semester.
Section 3. The majority of affirmative votes shall decide the winner of each office.
a. In the event of a tie, re-election will be held between the two candidates.
Section 4. The elected officers will hold term until the end of the summer.
Section 5. If an officer wishes to resign from office, he/she must announce his/her decision at a meeting with a quorum of members present and must give an explanation.
a. A new officer may be elected at the next meetings or by a unanimous decision of the Executive Committee.
b. The new officer may not hold position longer than that the regular term.
Article VI
Section 1. Regular meetings shall be established at the beginning of each semester.
a. Executive Committee has the power to call special meetings.
Section 2. The quorum shall be composed of one-half of the members plus one.
Article VII
Section 1. A membership fee of five dollars shall be collected, members shall be notified of probable cost of events and be responsible for their own funds.
Article VIII
Section 1. The process of amending this constitution requires notification of proposed change to the quorum.
Section 2. The members will take into consideration the proposed change and put it to a vote.
Section 3. A majority vote in the affirmative made by the quorum must be made in order for the amendment to take place.
